Maricel Goris is the Assistant Superintendent for Lawrence Public Schools. She is an experienced facilitator of adult development and training as well as youth development and educational programming that has directly improved the educational service delivery and student learning outcomes in urban and suburban programs and schools. Maricel began her education career in the Boston Public Schools as Deputy Director of the Office of Equity and would go on to serve as Assistant Headmaster at English High School, the Social Justice Academy and Boston Green Academy. She served as Metropolitan Educational Opportunities Council (METCO) Director for Newton Public Schools for five years and has served as a Board Member for the Hispanic Black Gay Coalition, Inc., METCO Directors’ Association, and METCO, Inc.
A daughter of immigrant parents from the Dominican Republic and one of four children, Maricel was able to experience living in a number of cities - Bronx, Cambridge, and Miami before finally settling in Boston, as a young adult. Maricel currently resides in Haverhill, MA with her shitzu Bentley and is the mother of two adult children. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring hiking trails in New England, traveling to new destinations, and working on 2,000+ jigsaw puzzles.
Maricel holds a Master of Arts degree in School Administration from UMass Boston, Master of Arts degree in Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education, B.A. degree in History and African-American Studies from Simmons College and an AA degree in Social Sciences from Roxbury Community College.
