Hehershe Busuego serves as Director of Programs and Racial Equity at Essex County Community Foundation. In this role, she partners with colleagues and volunteers in managing the Foundation’s grantmaking programs and, along with the CEO, co-leads the Foundation’s efforts to advance racial equity and racial justice. Prior to joining ECCF, she spent six years at the Boston Foundation where she developed and oversaw a number of special grantmaking initiatives for vulnerable populations and managed the Foundation’s nonprofit capacity building efforts. Most recently, she was responsible for co-designing and administering Open Door Grants, a $2 million grantmaking program responsive to the expressed ideas and needs of the Greater Boston community.

Other experience includes work with the Young Leaders Fund at the Chicago Community Trust; the Headwaters Group, an international philanthropic consulting firm; and the Chicago Global Donors Network. She joined the social sector after nine years in executive recruiting, where she specialized in board governance and diversity and inclusion.

Hehershe is a graduate of Smith College and holds a Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business (now the Institute for Nonprofit Practice). She serves as Co-Chair of the Boston Chapter of Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy and in her spare time, you’ll find her seeking out good eats, spending time in nature, and chasing after her two young children.
